DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY

How I select technology tools & resources - from design to development to implementation.

Design & Technology: Welcome

USING LMS PLATFORMS

Piano Course Via Blackboard

This course is designed for the individual with little to no previous knowledge of piano or basic music. The course facilitates the learner with a music foundation not for becoming a classical piano maestro, rather for casual playing and enjoyment. I wanted to create a music course that was accessible and cost effective for any type of student. Though this class requires access to a keyboard or piano at home, the instructional videos provide the learner with thorough tutorials on how to start using the keys. I incorporated the use of video journals to supplement the 1:1 time that a student and teacher might have to assess the student's practice regimen. Exit ticket assessments at the end of each module allow the student to reflect if they are ready to move on from the module topic and engage with the teacher for additional instructional time if needed.

SOCIAL MEDIA INTEGRATION

Marketing Strategies with Social Media Unit

This video showcases how I designed a unit utilizing social media as a learning strategy and as a mirror of the learning outcomes. With young millennial and gen Z learners, it is vital to utilize tools and strategies that are familiar to them and meet their unique learning needs. Social media tools and modern technology software developments in the past 10 years have provided an abundance of teaching paths for the 21st century instructional designer. I prioritize learning new technology in order to deploy these tools when pedagogy or androgogy analysis shows they will be effective.  I've also included a write-up of this process that you can explore with the link below.

The link above showcases a blog post which discusses several technology tools that I have explored and experimented with to increase learner engagement. These tools can help accomplish different learning outcomes and engage learners with alternative learning styles. I enjoy utilizing tech tools that learners can have fun with. Optimizing learning as play is one of the fundamental components of my teaching philosophy.

With immediate access to online technology tools and internet databases, it is important to also teach the responsible use of these websites. The above link will take you to a blog post in which I discuss how I would incorporate technology into information literacy education. This knowledge is imperative in the digital age as there are many avenues for accessing incorrect, falsified, and dangerous information. Evaluating information and online sites effectively is an important 21st century skill.
